What I read, watched, listened to
I found this article to be a good rebuttal to Jonathan Blow’s Preventing the Collapse of Civilization. I am sympathetic to some of Jonathan’s arguments—that modern software is unnecessarily bloated and could be much more performant. But I don’t believe the situation is as dire, and it feels like the pendulum is swinging back towards performance with the popularity of technologies like Rust and WebAssembly.
Training

Lifted on six out of seven days this week. No cardio!
Health metrics

Much better on sleep this week. It’s great to see the average go over 8 hours. Step count was typical, and with no cardio days I’m not surprised that I’m still averaging under 10,000. I’ve been averaging under 10,000 for a few months now, which suggests that some lifestyle changes are needed.
Languages
Great week for French compared to usual. I’m on Unit 13 of Section 2. This puts me at 31 units until starting A2.
Duolingo is also just the first step. Once I complete the tree through B2, the plan is to introduce more reading and conversation practice. But for now, we’re building the base.
